Outlook 2003 using a unicode (default) data file has no such limit (2gb) as
far as I'm aware the only way you will receive any such warning is if the
size limits have been set in the registry.
The only way to confirm this is by using the link I posted earlier to
determine whether indeed these settings have been used - whether its a home

No one change the limit. This is my personal computer and no one has
access
to it. I didn't set the limit because I don't know how to do so. If you
do,
please, let me know.
Thanks,
Ed
DL said:A unicode, the default for OL2003 has a 20gb size limit and not 2gb which
was the limit in pre OL2003 ie 2002 or earlier.
If you get this warning someone would appear to have set the max file
size
settings

This board didn't allow me to respond yeaterdy. Somrthing was wrong and
the
"reply" window wouldn't open up. I already mentioned in my very first
question that the PST file size did increase over 2GB. The use of the
tool:
PST2GB.exe, although working as stated, proved to be extremely slow and
inefficient (reducing the size 25MB at a time.) I gave up on it and use
a
suggestion by someone to just change my mail profile and transfer only
the
"must have" files from the old profile (i.e., calander, Contacts,
tasks.)
Since most of the oberflow concentrated with the "sent" file, the
problem
was
instantly resolved.
Thanks for the willingness to help,
Ed

If that all it says it indicates you are indeed using a unicode data
file.
Use the MS link I provided earlier to check whether the registry max
size
setting have been set
Sorry. It says Personal Folders File.

But you are failing to respond to my previous post with regard Data
Management
I actually did so and am waiting for replies. Thanks!

PS I know you are getting frustrated but it makes little sense

OK. Many thanks! I read the MS article and, although it's
probably
targeted
toward professional IT practitioners, do I understand from it
that I
can
go
into the Registry and change the size of the PST file? And,
how
do I
know
whether or not I have a "Unicode" system and, if not, how do I
change
it
to a
Unicode system? This is quite confusing.
Again, thanks for your help.

Nor do I see how it impacts.
As far as I'm aware you only receive that msg, in 2003, if
the
registry
settings for outlook have been set for maximum pst size, and
the
default
installation of 2003 does not add these settings. The max
size
for
a
2003
unicode pst is in the order of 20gb whilst the max size for a
pre
2003
pst
is 2gb

Does scanpst.exe, the repair tool run on this data file &
report
no
errors?

Oh, I see. Yes, POP mail. However, I don't see how this has
any
relationship
to Outlook's PST file being too large. I assume this is an
Outlook
issue
whereas POP mail relates to the communication method. Isn't
it
so?
Thanks for being there and trying to help.

I did say, in the original question, that I checked the
file
size
and
it's
about 2 GByte. I am not sure what do you mean by "what
type".
I
am
using
Outlook (not Outlook Express). If this is not what you
meant,
please,
let
me
know.
Thanks,
Oded

What type of email acct do you have? Apparently the pst
has
reached
the
maximum allowable size... you can check for the pst
file
size
at
Windows xp:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local
Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Vista:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook.

Sorry, but I have no idea what OL Unicode PST is.
Also,
"upgrading"
from
what? I diidn't upgrade anything... Can you, please,
explain
in
more
detail?
I do not have any IT administrator. This is a home
computer
and I
am
not
aware that I put any restrictions. Id I did so, I did
it
unintentionally
and
I have no idea how to remove it.
:
You are using an OL unicode pst & not the old
version
that
you
continued
to
use after upgrading?
Or the IT admin has put restricions in place?

I am using Outlook 2003, SP2. I am receiving the
message:
"Outlook
reached
its maximum PST flis size. Select items for
deletion
(use
Shift->delete).
Use new "pst" file introduced with Outlook 2003."
I am stumped! 1) I am using Outlook 2003. 2)
Outlook
doesn't
allow
me
to
delete anything - all I am getting is a pop up
window
with
the
above
error
message. How then can I delete anything? 3) I
tried
to
check
the
file
size
uzing Widows Explorer and it is about 2GB.
I am afraid to delete it from there because I'd
loose
all
of
my
contact
as
well as other items I may need. What can I do?
Thanks to all who can help.
