Hi Steve,

If you replace the images under the folder _derived with the correct
images, can this issue be reproduced?

What's your exact steps to publish this site?

| Well, this was not exactly the answer, but I did figure it out. Somehow
the
| files in the _derived folder were not the same on the host as the local
| computer. I ftp'd the files from my local computer to the host in this
| folder only and now it works.
|
| Wonder why this happened?

Steve

Here is the sequence:

After I make any corrections to my local copy of the web, I publish using
the FrontPage publish function (FILES | PUBLISH WEB). I have tried
publishing both only changed pages and publish entire site.

When I am done, the page banner does not work correctly. That is, the
needles in the gauges on the top banner are not animated.

Then, if I ftp the files from my local copy of the web in the _derived
folder only to the web host, the page banner is properly animated.

I do not understand why this folder is not being sent properly when I
publish and when I do publish why the files in the _derived folder are being
changed so that the banner is not animated.

Thanks.
Steve

Hi Jacky,

I am sorry, but I do not understand. What is it exactly that you are
suggesting?

Steve

Jacky Gu [MSFT]

Hi Steve,

I am sorry for causing the confusion.

The exact suggestion is:

If you do not use the _derived folder to publish images, will this issue
still occur after you published the web site?

You can change the folder name from "_derived" to the new name without
underscore "_" such as "image" or "Picture" or you can create a new folder
named "images" or Pictures".

If you have any anything unclear, please just reply. I am happy to be of
assistance.

Jacky Gu

The _derived folders are super hidden in FP client software and under the FP SE, and the folder name is not editable (since it is
not visible)

Changing the name outside of FP would require editing all paged outside of FP to replace the folder name embedded in the webbots
embedded code

The content of _derived folders is generated by themes and nav bars (the text from nav view is saved in _overlay folders (as
transparent .gifs) which are then merged w/ the nav bar images from the _theme folder to the nav image in the _derived folders

|
|
|
|
|
I am happy to be of
| assistance.

Thanks for that additional comment. Maybe you didn't read what the original
problem was which is as follows:

The page banner on my web is not displaying properly after publishing from
FP.

I am using the automotive theme and the tachometers at the top of the page
are supposed to be spinning.

For some reason on my web they are static.

I found that after I published in FP, then if I ftp everything in only the
_derived folder to the web, then it works properly. If I change a page and
re-publish only changed pages, then the animated page banner stops being
animated. Another ftp of the _derived folder and it works again.

When I look at the files in the _derived folder on the web site, after
publishing, the files are different from those on my local computer. For
example, the index.htm file on the web is about 6k. The one on my local
computer is about 18k. When I ftp that folder only they are the same and
everything works.

So the question is why are the files in the _derived folder changing,
apparently on their own, after I publish? And how do I fix this?

Thanks.

Steve

The _derived folders are super hidden in FP client software and under the
FP SE, and the folder name is not editable (since it is
not visible)

Changing the name outside of FP would require editing all paged outside of
FP to replace the folder name embedded in the webbots
embedded code

The content of _derived folders is generated by themes and nav bars (the
text from nav view is saved in _overlay folders (as
transparent .gifs) which are then merged w/ the nav bar images from the
_theme folder to the nav image in the _derived folders

Try reapplying the original unmodified theme to all pages
- do not open or edit the theme images in any tool

If you need to customize the theme (or get a corrected image from the original theme .elm files) use the unpack method at
http://sbrenjoy.bizland.com/frontpage/themes/newthemes.html#Granular

If is an animated .gif and if you open or edit it in anything but a .gif animator it will no longer be animated

S

Steve

I will give that a try, but then why would the local files have the
correctly encoded files in the _derived folder, but the files on the web
server not be the correct files?

It is weird, the local .htm files on my local computer are about 18k in
size, but the same files on the server are only about 8k. Even when I
publish the entire web.

What is happening on publishing that causes the files to change?

When I ftp the _derived folder, the banner is correctly animated.

Thanks.

Try reapplying the original unmodified theme to all pages
- do not open or edit the theme images in any tool

If you need to customize the theme (or get a corrected image from the
original theme .elm files) use the unpack method at
http://sbrenjoy.bizland.com/frontpage/themes/newthemes.html#Granular

If is an animated .gif and if you open or edit it in anything but a .gif
animator it will no longer be animated

| Thanks for that additional comment. Maybe you didn't read what the
original
| problem was which is as follows:
|
| The page banner on my web is not displaying properly after publishing
from
| FP.
|
| I am using the automotive theme and the tachometers at the top of the
page
| are supposed to be spinning.
|
| For some reason on my web they are static.
|
| I found that after I published in FP, then if I ftp everything in only
the
| _derived folder to the web, then it works properly. If I change a page
and
| re-publish only changed pages, then the animated page banner stops being
|
|
|
| Thanks.
