Patch Package defies solutions

I have received the "Patch Package cannot be opened, etc. while trying to
install Windows XP & Frontpage 2003. I have tried all the methods using the
Installer clean up utility and Support 295823. I have a new Dell desktop
which was installed with Works Suite which I have removed, cleaned etc. A
Windows support tech and an Office tech have been unable to help. Dell
support is useless. Is there any way I can fix this short of reinstalling
Windows XP Media Edition? Thanks, John

Have you tried downloading the patch again? It could be corrupted.
Which patch is this? Could it be SP2 patch of Office 2003? I am not
trying to be difficult but "Windows XP & Frontpage 2003" does not make
sense. You need to download patches for OS separately from Office
products unless you have opted for automatic updates. If this is the
case then auto-update will do everything for you.

OK, now I understand what the problem is. You need to install SP for
Office XP separately from SP for Frontpage 2003. Do you get this? If
you have Office XP with Frontpage then you can't have Frontpage 2003!
Are you trying to install Frontpage 2003 SP when you have the product?
Did you buy FP 2003 separately on its own?

Office XP came with Frontpage (let us call this 2002) and so you only
need this SP:

If you have FP 2003 also, then look for SP2 for Office 2003.

This should solve your problem.

I don't need to update them, I need to install them in the first place. This,
I cannot do as I receive the error message "This Patch package cannot be
opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows
Installer patch." I have reviewed the Knowledge Base and followed the
recommendations without success and have had no help from Microsoft tech
specialists in Office XP or Windows XP. Judging from the other similar
problems in this thread, there is a conflict among the various Office
