Patch Package defies solutions

J

John

I'm afraid I'm not being clear on the exact nature of the problem. I have
separate installation cd's for Office XP Standard (2002) and Frontpage 2003.
I don't need to update them, I need to install them in the first place. This,
I cannot do as I receive the error message "This Patch package cannot be
opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows
Installer patch." I have reviewed the Knowledge Base and followed the
recommendations without success and have had no help from Microsoft tech
specialists in Office XP or Windows XP. Judging from the other similar
problems in this thread, there is a conflict among the various Office
installers.

Install Frontpage 2003 with a verbose logging switch and post it back to this
site

Place CD, don't autorun, if it does, then stop it.
Start | Run, cd drive letter:\setup.exe /L*V C:\frontpage.txt

Post the frontpage.txt to the site.

How long ago did you run the Windows installer cleanup utility?? If it was
lately, then you need to call into Support again - the installer cleanup
utility contains an engine that will break your windows installer cached
patches information. Ask for Pro level support instead of Personal support.

I can look at the log file if you can post it to this thread.

I am having almost the same issue. When I open Outlook, I get an error from
Word 2003, and it tells me to reinstall, or repair it.
When I attempt to run it from the cd, I get the same error as posted above.
I have tried the registry fix, and then went right to the uninstall, and I
get the same error.
I did the logging, and get an exit error of 1635. If you want, I can post
the whole log file here if it would help, or I can start a whole new thread
for my issue?

When I open outlook, it apprears as though it is not downloading email at
all.
Thanks
Todd

I finally got it to work, by redownloading the windows reinstaller utility.
I was able to reinstall the Office suite, and everything runs fine.
Thanks
