Problem displaying web pages

David,
Both those sites appear fine on my lap top.

I still need to change the image in the Gutter Guys web site. Do these
appear poor quality to you? If not I might just leave them.

Terry,

Given that you can view other Publisher and nonPublisher sites ok on the
laptop, I would now guess that maybe you are seeing an old version of your
site. Empty the internet cache in both IE and FF, and when you go to view
http://www.aluminiumguttersupplies.com.au then try using Ctrl + F5 to force
a reload. How does it look now? And how about the text? You indicated
earlier that the text had not looked good on your laptop either.

As per http://www.gutterguys.com.au/ the clip art does not render as well in
FF as it does in IE, but it isn't as bad. Your Gutter Guys logo is a bit
fuzzy ( Cool logo by the way ). Note also that the top logo is less fuzzy
than the smaller version below. The top version of your logo is 432 pixels
wide and the bottom is 360. How wide is your original logo? It may be that
all you need to do on the top logo is to make sure the picture is at 100%
scale and size of the original image. Right click the image, Format Picture,
Size tab and compare the height and width to the original height and width
at the bottom, and make sure that he scale is 100%. You may just need to
increase the size of that inserted logo to 100%, and all will be good. If
you want to use a smaller version of the logo then yes, you will need to
make a new copy.

Also on the home page the 3 months terms available logo and the HIA logo
might need some work, but obviously aren't as important. I didn't view all
the pages.

If you do try to fix the Gutter Guys logo, be careful. It appears to be a
transparent GIF file, and in resizing it you may break the transparency. You
can try the compression tool in Publisher, or work on the image in
Irfanview. Also, if you try to save the image from Publisher by right
clicking, don't forget that you can save as a gif, but also as a png which
also supports transparency. And that leads to another approach that I
sometimes take.

Even though PNG files are a little larger than GIF files, sometimes they are
a better choice for clip art and logos. After compressing only the jpg
images in a document via the Publisher tool, go back to Tools > Options >
Web tab and this time do check the "Allow PNGs...". Now assuming that the
original Gutter Guys logo is a GIF file that you inserted and then resized
to less than 100% of its original size and scale, Publish to the web and
direct your web files to your local computer, go to the index_files and find
the PNG version of your logo. Sometimes Publisher produces a good version of
a GIF logo in the PNG format during the publishing process when you Allow
pngs. If you find a PNG version of your Gutter Guys logo that looks good in
both FF and IE and is the proper size, then save it, and insert it into your
document, make sure once again that it is scaled at 100% size. Test your
pages. Then go back, turn off the PNG option under tools and test. See which
option gives you the best results with images that are relatively small in
size so they will load quickly, and such that Publisher does not make bad
copies of the original images. Remember that if you insert any image in any
format at full size and scale, then Publisher won't make a bad copy of that
image, or even change the format of that image.

And later...after writing this whole response I did a bit more looking, and
it appears that your original Gutter Guys logo is not a gif file, but is a
jpg...is this true? http://www.gutterguys.com.au/index_files/image365.jpg If
so, then all my comments above may not be relevant as they were predicated
on you starting with a gif file. Either way, this image is 827 X 354 so
obviously it is oversized and that is why you are getting a bad copy in FF.
You can try the compress pictures feature, the save as an picture feature
and try different file formats, try the conversion to PNG with Publisher, or
you can start with your original image and create the correct sized image in
all three picture formats in Irfanview and see which one works the best.
Just experiment as I can't tell what you started with or what will work the
best.

Good luck.
