Problem going back to Office 2K from Office 2007 ...

System: XP with SP2

Was running Office 2K with all Office Security Updates done, etc.

Installed Office 2007 Pro (full version) breifly, (long story short: I
thought I was authorized to install it, but it turned out I was not) ...

so had to go back to Office 2K, so ..
Uninstalled 2007, rebooted, and re-installed 2K.

Everything was fine ... EXCEPT ... cannot run security updates for 2K. I get
an error message "Expected version was not found" ... and the update process
bails out !

Is it possible that the only real solution is to do a complete re-build of
the system? It has been suggested to me that it is probably easier to
backup, blow away the partition, and re-format, reinstall everything.

OK, there were no *.msi files named "Microsoft Office product_name 2007."
or anything similar. So I closed the Installer folder after Step 2 / 7.

In steps 2 / 8 to 2 / 11, I did not find any copy of Office Source Engine
running.

In regedit I only found the first instances mentioned.

in run / %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared, I found an Office12 folder,
which I deleted.

I did not find any MSOCache folder in C:\ .. despite turning on being able
to see all hidden and system files.

in run / %appdata%\microsoft\templates I only found Normal11.dot ... no
*.dotm ... so I left it.

trying to run / %appdata%\microsoft\document building blocks\language_id
gave me an error message about not being able to find C:\documents.

run / %temp% showed a bunch of files. Doing a select all / delete gave me
an error about accessing some of them. I will shut down everything and run
CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) ... that should accomplish the same thing, no?

My next post will give the result of running Ccleaner.
