Problem going back to Office 2K from Office 2007 ...

OK, there were no *.msi files named "Microsoft Office product_name 2007."
or anything similar. So I closed the Installer folder after Step 2 / 7.

In steps 2 / 8 to 2 / 11, I did not find any copy of Office Source Engine
running.

In regedit I only found the first instances mentioned.

in run / %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared, I found an Office12 folder,
which I deleted.

I did not find any MSOCache folder in C:\ .. despite turning on being able
to see all hidden and system files.

in run / %appdata%\microsoft\templates I only found Normal11.dot ... no
*.dotm ... so I left it.

trying to run / %appdata%\microsoft\document building blocks\language_id
gave me an error message about not being able to find C:\documents.

run / %temp% showed a bunch of files. Doing a select all / delete gave me
an error about accessing some of them. I will shut down everything and run
CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) ... that should accomplish the same thing, no?

My next post will give the result of running Ccleaner.

Even though the page refers to removing Office 2007 Beta, can I use the
instructions with a full (non-Beta) installation of Office 2007 ?

Is it possible that the only real solution is to do a complete
re-build
of
the system? It has been suggested to me that it is probably easier to
backup, blow away the partition, and re-format, reinstall everything.

It is late now and I will not attempt to re-install Office 2000 until
tomorrow evening ... and after I check this thread for any comments on my
previous posting.

try to reinstall.
There is a reason why the steps are detailed and explicit. Anything
beyond those steps should not be used.

try to reinstall.

OK, there were no *.msi files named "Microsoft Office product_name 2007."
or anything similar. So I closed the Installer folder after Step 2 / 7.

In steps 2 / 8 to 2 / 11, I did not find any copy of Office Source Engine
running.

In regedit I only found the first instances mentioned.

in run / %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared, I found an Office12 folder,
which I deleted.

I did not find any MSOCache folder in C:\ .. despite turning on being able
to see all hidden and system files.

in run / %appdata%\microsoft\templates I only found Normal11.dot ... no
*.dotm ... so I left it.

trying to run / %appdata%\microsoft\document building blocks\language_id
gave me an error message about not being able to find C:\documents.

run / %temp% showed a bunch of files. Doing a select all / delete gave me
an error about accessing some of them. I will shut down everything and run
CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) ... that should accomplish the same thing, no?

My next post will give the result of running Ccleaner.

Is it possible that the only real solution is to do a complete
re-build
of
the system? It has been suggested to me that it is probably easier to
backup, blow away the partition, and re-format, reinstall everything.

it on ... mind you none of them are running 2007.

In any case, as I say, I am 99% sure that I will not put 2007 on this

in run / %appdata%\microsoft\templates I only found Normal11.dot ...
no
*.dotm ... so I left it.

trying to run / %appdata%\microsoft\document building blocks\language_id
gave me an error message about not being able to find C:\documents.

run / %temp% showed a bunch of files. Doing a select all / delete gave
me
an error about accessing some of them. I will shut down everything and
run
CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) ... that should accomplish the same thing,
no?

My next post will give the result of running Ccleaner.

instructions with a full (non-Beta) installation of Office 2007 ?

Is it possible that the only real solution is to do a complete
re-build
of
the system? It has been suggested to me that it is probably easier
to
backup, blow away the partition, and re-format, reinstall
everything.

Was running Office 2K with all Office Security Updates done,
etc.

Installed Office 2007 Pro (full version) breifly, (long story
short:
I
thought I was authorized to install it, but it turned out I was
not)
...

so had to go back to Office 2K, so ..
Uninstalled 2007, rebooted, and re-installed 2K.

Everything was fine ... EXCEPT ... cannot run security updates
for
2K.
I
get an error message "Expected version was not found" ... and
the
update
process bails out !

Help !

I will not re-install 2007 on this system ... just Office 2000.
Ccleaner has never broken any software on several other systems that I run
it on ... mind you none of them are running 2007.

In any case, as I say, I am 99% sure that I will not put 2007 on this
system. I promise never to run Ccleaner if I do

But what about the error messsage I got when I tried to run
%appdata%\microsoft\document building blocks\language_id ??

How do the rest of my rest of the results look? Any surprises?

Please don't use CCleaner. That thing breaks Office 2007 when you ever
try to reinstall.
There is a reason why the steps are detailed and explicit. Anything
beyond those steps should not be used.

OK, there were no *.msi files named "Microsoft Office product_name
2007."
or anything similar. So I closed the Installer folder after Step 2 / 7.

In steps 2 / 8 to 2 / 11, I did not find any copy of Office Source
Engine
running.

In regedit I only found the first instances mentioned.

in run / %CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared, I found an Office12
folder,
which I deleted.
