Problem installing Office 2004 11.5.1 update

Sorry if I wasn't clear. After running "Remove Office", Office 2004 did not appear in Applications. IF I remember correctly, AutoUpdate still appeared.

After "Remove Office" and "Apple Combo", I reinstalled Office. Office then reappeared in Applications. I then tried to update, but couldn't.

You told me to manually remove Office. After I do this, should I or should I not apply Apple Combo again before reinstalling Office and trying to update?

I want to take care of this prior to 'attacking' the DNS problem.

Sorry for asking so many questions, but I'm not very computer savvy (especially with a Mac).

Thank you.

Exactly what happens when you try to update. Are you able to get the update?
When does the process fail.

Once you have run the combo you shuldn't have to do it again. Remove Office
manually, restart. Hold Shift key down when logging into your account to
disable all applications. Then you can try updating safely.

If you can't download the updater you will need to do this first.

BTW, what type of computer do you have. PPC....Intel. The Apple system
profiler will tell you. Under the Apple in the Menu bar, select "About this
Mac." Click on the "more info" button. That will open the System profiler.

We do our best to help new users, but sometimes the problem go beyond the
scope of this list. I will try to help you off list if I can. At least I can
point you to how to get help.

I manually uninstalled all the components I could find following the instructions from <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323675/en-us>. I then reinstalled Office. As before, the update downloads but doesn't install. Two boxes appear: One indicates that it's "searching for programs to update" & the 2nd indicates that the software is being installed. A small colored circle keeps spinning round & round. The software does not install & I have to force quit.

I then went to the OpenDNS site. At first I tried to change the DNS settings in my computer. This didn't work because I have 'Ethernet', not 'Built In Ethernet' (System Preferences -->Network --> Ethernet). No numbers appeared in the DNS table. I cancelled & then changed & saved the DNS settings for my Linksys router. I then tried to update again --> same spinning circle.

My computer is an iMac OSX (Version 10.5.4) - 2.4GHz IntelCore 2 Duo.

What do you mean by providing help "off list"?

Thank you for your patience.

I brought my computer to the Apple store today. My computer was found to have many corrupted files which have been repaired. The updates for Office 2004 have been installed.

Thank you for you patience and suggestions.
