Publisher 200 DISASTER

I am up to Service Pack 3, and no problems at all. I am now putting the last
few patches in one or two at a time. I will let you know the results since this
is bound to hit others sooner or later. I am fairly sure it is KB894540, but
not quite 100% sure yet.

Final diagnosis:

KB894540 is the evil culprit.

If you have older .pub files, even if they were created in Publisher 2000, this
patch may cause them to be rejected as native files.

I am very angry that I was forced to spend hours to solve this problem, entirely
of M$'s making.

You gotta be nicer Syd...you never know when you might need help again, and
the people that volunteer on these newsgroups do the best they can.

Heh, If I was not being nice, I promise you would know it. Not nice was when M$
demanded I pay a fee for support yesterday afternoon. That did not happen. But
in the end, three hours later on the phone with an escalation team, it wound up
being worth what I paid for it.

Hey Syd,

I can appreciate your frustration with MS, and have considered switching out
of Publisher for my website on occasion. I mentioned the possibility of
ASP.net to you, but I am also considering http://nvu.com/index.php in order
to get away from MS. You might check it out...tis free, and looks like it
might not be that hard to learn. Yes, it would require rebuilding my site,
but I imagine that since I have figured out my layout, content and images, I
could probably do a lot of it with copy and paste from Publisher. Anyway,
just thought I would mention it...
