Re-Creating Entourage After Computer Crash

Entourage 11.3.2

Hi,

I lost Entourage in a crash and now only the blank Entourage screen
comes up and I have to start over entering the information. What I
need to know is this: I recal some time ago this happening, and at
some point in rebuilding Entourage, all my previous information came
back into place. Folders inbox sent mail-everything. Now I'm
hesitant to start anything on this blank entourage starter page
because I would like to get all that stuff back. It's there
somewhere, right? Is it all in the web mail?

Any input appreciated.

After a crash your data can be ³lost². See these solutions:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/crashes.html#crash15>

Your previous situation wasn¹t a result of a crash when rebuilding brought
back your data. That might not be a solution this time, but it¹s a bit early
to say for sure.

What size is the new Identity? The default size is 18 MB.

Along the same lines, is there a clever way to be able to backup a 10MB+
identity?
These things grow to a size of a small house over time.

Whoops, meant 10GB+

You might want to consider having two Identities. One would be an archive
Identity where you could switch over when you needed old info.

See this page for help archiving your data.

See these tips to reduce your database:

You would back it up just as you would back up any other file. I'm not
sure I understand the question.

10GB can only be backed up to another drive, not DVD. I do incremental
backups of all my files to DVD for storage.

I back up to tape, so that's not a problem.

I suppose you'll have to back up to a hard drive, tape, or use Stuffit
or some other such utility to segment the file into pieces to back up
to DVD.

Yes, too bad MS didn't figure a better way to do this originally.
I haven't used tape in years - didn't know they even made 10GB+ tapes.

Hell yeah. I get between 60 and 90 GB a tape with my Firewire VXA2
tape drive, depending on how well the data compresses. Exabyte's VXA
packet technology is next-gen stuff - way better than traditional tape
drive technology:

Yes, but data on tape...

For how many years?
I've experienced degradation on a couple of my older DATs.

Did you even visit the link I gave you above?

VXA tapes have a shelf life of 30 years:

<http://exabyte.com/products/tape/the_media.cfm>

Add to that the fact that VXA packet technology allows drives to read
tapes that have been subjected to extremes much greater than
traditional DAT tapes can handle. In contrast, the smallest variations
in DAT tapes can result in unrecoverable data. Again, here's the link:

Too impatient for long flash presentations, tried to flip through it to
get the gist. Missed that part.

Good thoughts.

I gave up DAT as soon as CD came in.

The other problem is how well a technology is accepted.

You'll need to make sure you always have a working reader/writer years
down the line.

The storage amount sounds good, but will the technology be around in 10
years? DAT is already practically dead. Then there's the software
issue... will it be reasonable compatible years from now?

I ran across this article today ³A script to create multi-DVD-spanning
backups³

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html#error-17747>

Hope it helps.

Error -17747
-17747 = -17800 + unwillingToPerform (53).
Every time I try to access the GAL with LDAP, I receive error #-17747.
SP2 includes a fair amount of enhancements to Entourage's general LDAP
capabilities. As a result, some of your previous LDAP settings may need
to be updated. The most common solution for error -17747 is to remove
the search base from your directory configuration. Go to Tools menu :
Accounts : Your Exchange Account : Advanced and empty the Search Base
field.

Is there a question here? If I have to start reading minds I¹ll have to
charge for that. :)

The link you posted has nothing to do with ³A script to create
multi-DVD-spanning backups³
