It kind of sounds like an intermittent server issue. If so, nothing
Microsoft can do to Entourage can fix that problem, since Microsoft
can't control what BellSouth does with their own servers.

I've thought about that and the frustrating thing is, as soon as you mention
Entourage to Bellsouth they instantly use the excuse that they don't trouble
shoot 3rd party software. Even though I've tried to tell them exactly what
you've suggested.

However, I must admit that I don't have and have never had any issue like
this with Mac Mail or Outlook in XP.

Definitely frustrating.

Don't tell them you are using Entourage. :) If you have another choice for
your ISP, I would switch.

Well, I intalled tcpflow and tried your command in terminal to test an email
but terminal kept coming back with this msg;

Unhandled transform (1) for ioctl group = 66 (B), number = 121, length = 12
Illegal instruction

What am I doing wrong?

No other choice for an ISP. Believe me, I'd be gone if there were. Here's
another interesting thing. The same issue happens on my Mac loptop. I suppose
that might suggest a problem with Entourage sending through the Bellsouth
server. But I gotta tell ya, it just seems hard to believe that an email
program has an intermittent problem with an ISP server. Very weird to me.

Just paste in this info:

sudo /usr/local/bin/tcpflow -i en0 -c

One thought that you might consider. Set up a Gmail account. You can forward
your BellSouth account to Gmail and download from Gmail. Gmail has great
spam filters.

:

You mentioned in your post that you had to “upgrade and change smtp
addresses, passwords, etc.â€

Can you tell me what smtp address you are using (I’m at 25) and the other
“upgrade†you made?

Most of the time Entourage won’t send my email but sometimes it does and
it’s driving me nuts.

I was on the phone with the help desk at AT&T and we tried a lot of things before we found the right formula. The smtp ultimately ended up being mail.sbcglobal.net - it seemed like it was her last resort address.

With the upgrade, they wanted everything in the advanced settings to be clicked and I believe it was using port 465. With this final address, everything was unclicked and we were back to port 25.

We were on the phone for quite a while and literally went through each piece of equipment (modem, airport, and then the Entourage settings) one at a time to get settings straight. I don't think I could have fixed it without the phone call, unfortunately. And that's because I think settings had to be adjusted on their end as well. So from my perspective, it's worth the call.

I am with Comcast and using Windows Mail. I am able to receive, but cann't
send. Anyone out there have an answer to my problem?

This is a Mac forum, but these basics should apply.

1. If you can receive but not send then you have a bad SMTP configuration
2. If you can send but not receive you have a bad POP or IMAP configuration

You can try re-entering info.
You can delete account and create a new one.
Using copy/paste can result in an extra space being added. Type carefully.
Check your Keychain for corruption. (don't know what this might be called in
Windows)
