That is my question. How do I find the product ID number. As stated
before, we don't have the disks.

After furious head scratching, mtcm asked:

| My mother-in-law's computer crashed. She had MS Office installed on
| that computer, she apparently has no disks. She wants to have MS
| Office 2003 on her newly purchased computer. I have the harddrive
| from her old computer hooked up as a slave on my computer. I can't
| open any of the office programs. Also if I hook up her drive as a
| master, my computer won;t boot.
|
|
| I know I can get to the product ID if I open a program, use "help" and
| "about", but I can't open the programs
|
| How do I find the product ID from the harddrive I have?

the product ID is not the product key which would be needed
for re installation - perhaps it is written on the receipt
for the purchase
That is my question. How do I find the product ID number. As stated

The product ID will not assist you here you need the product
key, which may be found using magic jellybean (tho I do not
know if it will work on a disk set up as a slave.

The product key will be on the sticker on the old PC case or
on the cd case that held the CDs when they were supplied

Using your friends disk and a product key that you might
find on your pc does not mean that office will re install

Go back to those who sold her the "product ID" and use their
disks

good luck
