Search Not Working

Hi Brian,

I received your message sent to my hotmail account, but could not respond
since the return address was invalid (apparently protected from spam).

Day-yam. I must have posted from my news server 'account' in Mozilla
and not my mail account. Ever since I switched from Netscape 4.79, I
keep doing that because it was automatically switched. If that happens
again, just sub .com for .invalid.

Hi Brian,

I contacted Interland again, and referred them to your ticket number. They
insisted they cannot "index" my site. I asked them to do to my site whatever
they did to yours. :)

I got a case closed message from them telling me they cannot index my site
because I am on a shared server. To index our site we must be on a Dedicated
Server. Is your site on a Dedicated Server?

This afternoon I opened my Search page and added a new Search component,
deleted the old Search component, saved the page and then recalculated the
hyperlinks. I then republished the entire site, not just the changed pages.
Then I opened the remote site in FP and recalculated the hyperlinks in the
remote site. Voila! The Search component now works.

I am really disappointed with the support from Interland. We have been with
them since 1997 and up until lately their support has been good. But I sure
got the run-around on this problem. I received different wrong answers,
incomplete answers, and even no answers, depending on with whom I spoke.

Thanks for your help during this project.

Kind regards,
Gene

Interleaved.... and yes, I received your email this time. I guess
that's what happened when I wrote someone else in this group, since I
didn't see an answer...

No, I don't think TrueBasic gets a dedicated server. And I get a
"server busy" error many many times after a long hang when either
publishing or recalculating hyperlinks.

So they refused to do to yours what they did to mine?

Ah. OK. I'll try that next time. What I'd done is skip the
republishing entire step. I'd installed a 'new' component, and
recalculated (after running FP Cleaner) AND deleting all the .btr files
in _private, but didn't republishing the entire site.

Sounds like average treatment to me. I've waited until I've gotten the
ticket, then called back to see if I can talk to someone else. Problem
is, they tell you they will 'escalate it to the next level" or a
"specialized group" but a customer cannot talk to them directly. that
leads to this weird communication of trying to get the front-line droids
to use complete sentences and descrie the problem appropriately instead
of just "Brian can't calculate hyperlinks" and seeing the "ticket
closed, we can't duplicate the issue he's having." When it wasnt that
issue AT ALL.
Thanks for your help during this project.

I believe we helped each other!!! I wouldn't have known it was the host
server if you hadn't posted with the same issue.
