Security Warning about Macros in Office 2003

E

eli

Hello:

I noticed the following security warning whenever I open Microsoft Word or
Microsoft Outlook 2003:

<<<<

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Startup\PDF Maker.dot

contains macros by Adobe System Incorporated.

I am then given the option to Enable or Disable Macros.

Under: "Details" , I am shown a Digital Signature from : Adobe Systems
Incorporated

When I attempt to find out what Macros are to be found in MS Office [via
Tools--->Mcros in mS Word] I see a group of Macros I supposedly created
today, April 5, 2006. However, I don't recall creating anything of this
sort. Frankly, I don't know waht a "Macro" is.

I hadn't gotten such notices prior to today. I do recall there was an update
to the Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Prof a few days ago.

My questions are:

1) Why am I suddenly getting these warnings?

2) How can I ascertain if these are safe to enable?

I use:

Windows XP Professional Edition SP2

Microsoft Office 2003 SP2

Thanks in advance:

-Eli

Hi PA:

The warning doesn't say who it's from. Loks like a typical IE
notification. When I click on "More Info" i'm led to Microsoft Office Word
help. But after I click to disable Macros, I get a notification form
Microsoft Visual Basic--with an exclamation point box on it that:
"The Macros in this project are disabled" followed by a suggestion to go to
the online help and documentation of the host application to determine how
to enable macros.

Hi,

Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Pro. and Stand. editions ship with a word template
(pdfmaker.dot) that allow one to ship whatever they are looking at in Word
off to distiller. Getting the macro warning is quite normal right after
installing the product or having it updated.

If you choose to disable macros, then you will not get any of the
toolbar/menus in Word that let shoot the document off to distiller.

I'm thinking it is safe to allow PDFMaker since you are seeing the
"signature" file that identifies Adobe and that you are quite aware that you
have the product installed.

installing the product or having it updated.

I do recall there was an
update to the Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Prof a few days ago.

My questions are:

1) Why am I suddenly getting these warnings?

2) How can I ascertain if these are safe to enable?

I use:

Windows XP Professional Edition SP2

Microsoft Office 2003 SP2

Thanks in advance:

-Eli
