Security Warning about Macros in Office 2003

Thanks Lance, Neo, and PA Bear:

I checked in that box to always allow Macros from Acrobat, and I now see
that toolbar in Word which allows me to convert from a Word doc to Adobe
PDF. The warnings no longer appear.

This is the macro for PDF Maker. PDF Maker allows you to "print" a Word
document directly to a PDF file. It's installed by Adobe Acrobat.

I have Acrobat 6 installed with Word 2003 SP2 and the exact same warning
happens to me. I also have the macros that are supposed to be created by
me on today's date.

You can get rid of the warning by checking the box that says 'Always trust
macros from this publisher', then the 'Enable Macros' button. See solution
5 here:

eli thought carefully and wrote on 4/5/2006 5:39 PM:
Hello:

I noticed the following security warning whenever I open Microsoft Word
or Microsoft Outlook 2003:

<<<<

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Startup\PDF Maker.dot

contains macros by Adobe System Incorporated.

I am then given the option to Enable or Disable Macros.

Under: "Details" , I am shown a Digital Signature from : Adobe Systems
Incorporated

When I attempt to find out what Macros are to be found in MS Office [via
Tools--->Mcros in mS Word] I see a group of Macros I supposedly created
today, April 5, 2006. However, I don't recall creating anything of this
sort. Frankly, I don't know waht a "Macro" is.

I hadn't gotten such notices prior to today. I do recall there was an
update to the Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Prof a few days ago.

My questions are:

1) Why am I suddenly getting these warnings?

2) How can I ascertain if these are safe to enable?

I use:

Windows XP Professional Edition SP2

Microsoft Office 2003 SP2

Thanks in advance:

-Eli

It's very questionable whether you need this template anyway, as you can
always create PDFs by printing to the Distiller printer, an arrangement which
I pfrefer because it's a universal one, not just for Word.

Hi Ian,

The big deal about the PDF maker is that it will automatically create
bookmarks and TOC from the Office document in the finished PDF (you see
it as a navigation structure in the final PDF).

I'm also not sure if the PDF printer will keep the text as "text"
allowing it to be search-able in the final PDF.

This is a prime candidate for a free and open-source software add-in for
Office. Being open-source would make it easy to adapt to new Office
versions such as 2007; there have been problems in the past where Adobe
v5 PDF maker wasn't compatible with Office 2003 forcing people to
upgrade the Adobe software too.
