If by the "old communities" you mean these newsgroups, then the answer is no. To
see the newsgroups in a newsreader, you would have to create a separate account,
such as news.eternal-september.org (which I'm using).
Hi Stefan.
This is back to my first posting.
I have registered at eternal-september but I do not see any news group
to see postings, I see the News Portal that does not include the
newsgroups I am looking for (and is in a awful format). I do see the
newsgroups under the Hierarchies but cannot use them in any way.

Do I need the NNTP Bridge then, either the MS one or the Communities
Forum one that I have installed but does not seem to do anything. Have
I missed something very simple?

Again, I am responding from Google Groups.
Thanks
DeanH

You don't need the bridge to access the newsgroups. The bridge is required
to make the new answers forum available to a newsreader. You need to setup
your newsreader to access Eternal September or whatever other news server
your require. For Outlook Express you can see how to do that at
http://www.gmayor.com/MSNews.htm. For other newsreaders the principles are
similar though the dialogs will be different.

We seem to be going around in circles here... :)

In your newsreader, make sure that you have specified your account name and
password. You should then be able to refresh the newsgroup list and find the
Microsoft newsgroups.

These are the exact steps in Outlook Express: In the Folders pane, right-click
the news.eternal-september.org account and choose Properties from the context
menu. On the Server tab, select "This server requires me to log on" and then
enter your account name and password. On the Advanced tab, use 119 for "Server
port number" (this is the default). When you have configured the account
properly, click Apply and OK. In the right pane, click Newsgroups. Click Reset
List to download all the groups. Subscribe to the ones that you want. Click OK.

If you are using Windows Mail, the steps may not be exactly the same, but they
should be almost the same.

Graham and Stefan.
Ah, now I see the problem, I don't have a Newsreader installed. I
thought that Eternal-September was a news-reader.
Outlook Express and MS Mail are blocked by my corporate protocol.
Are there any others that 'could' work?
Thanks
DeanH

There are others, but I suspect that they would be blocked by the same
corporate protocol that prevents you from using Outlook Express or LiveMail.
e.g. Mozilla Thunderbird and Forte Agent
