M

Margrave

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Once again the update will not install. After doing the down load up comes this message
"You cannot install Office 2008 12.1.2 Update on this volume. A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume."

this happened to the last update
so how do we install the new update? Hope the answer is not another complete install

I am sorry you are seeing this. There are numerous reasons that you may be seeing this. If you would like we can try to deal with them here - and it might help others. Or if you want to post your email address, I can write you directly.

I am going to look at one of the most common reasons for this first. Could you go to the Office folder inside the Microsoft Office 2008 folder, and scroll through the items until you come to the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant? When you find this item, please right mouse click (or use control + Click) and from the contextual menu choose "Show Package Contents".

In the window that appears you will see a folder called "Contents", and in that is one called "PlugIns", and in that folder is an item called SLT.bundle - please click on that.

When you find SLT.bundle, please right mouse click (or use control + Click) and from the contextual menu choose "Show Package Contents".

Can you please reply back to the list with what you find in there (just the names of the folders is fine)?

Thanks

David

I also can't install. I get the exact same message as this other guy.

So, I did what you asked and found the following items:

Hi David,

I am having the same problem as other users. I have the same folder list as David Badovinac has listed in his comments. I have also been unable to install updates from 12.1.1.

I'm getting the same error. All previous updates ran fine in the past. I tried deleting the two .plist files and and re-entering the product key but it didn't work.

I'm running Leopard with all updates.

Same problem. Please fix the patch so it will fix the funky errors that I've experienced with Office Mac like the way making a format change in a Word table makes all the text go bold. I had a 150 page chart and it did this all the time - drove me crazy. I need your patch . . . bad. Thanks for the hard work.

I just tried downloading the 12.1.1 updater to see if installing that again would work to allow the install of 12.1.2 but I got the same error that no installation could be found.

The only other thing that I can think of is that some while back I ran a program that removed all the other languages on my Mac that freed up 3 GB of space. I question if that removed a key file.

I also ran the program called Monolingual to free up some hard drive space. I wonder if that would make any difference.

I also ran Monolingual, and am having the same "missing file" problem when I try to install the update. Can someone tell us what the missing file is and where it should be?

It seems the language packs do have something to do with failed update.

I compared the contents of the folders mentioned at post 2 between my macbook pro (which wouldn't update) and my iMac (which updated fine).

MBP was missing the non-english language packs.

Copied them from my iMac to the MBP, ran update and presto! Update worked fine.

Word starts up much much faster with this update.

Hope this helps others.

Hi, Peter,

Would you please upload that missed non-English Package to this page? If this page doesn't accept the uploads, would you please send it to my email: (e-mail address removed)?

Many thanks.
