Hi, ol'minerpickax,

Did you recently do a system restore or use a third-party cleanup utility?
If so, see if this article helps.

If not, post back with what version of Office you are running, the operating
system, and the text of the errors and when they occur.

Susan,
Thanks for your response. First, MS Word wasn't functioning properly. I
mistakenly deleted MS office thinking I was deleting Office XP office home
edition. I did a system restore but did not correct the problem. Then I
discovered that none of the MS applications could run. I got the following
error message, "The function that you are trying to run is on another source
and is unavailable on your system. Please select an alternative path or find
the folder containing file 511974." I believe that I inadvertently deleted
the memory source for all MS applications and the ability to run, install,
and unistall applications. Since Windows XP was pre-loaded onto my computer,
I need to know how to reinstall those files. Thanks

Susan,
I am running Office XP2000. I finished reading the post and additional
references. Haven't tried the fixes as I am on vacation now. Believe the
problems to be located with some of the service patches. I can't reinstall
Office XP as suggested in one of the procedures recommended to create a
restore point because I am missing the file that one of the service packs
updated. How can I download the service pack to get the file? I created an
emergency restart disk. Will this file be located in the emergency
procedures?
