Where did the Office update option go?

For technically sophisticated users, the option to only check for and
install updates that you choose is always preferred.

However, remember that you are in the minority of users. Most users turn on
the computer they bought with a trial version of an AV package that long
expired, and expect everything to just work. They appreciate that vendors
automate update checking and installation (not just Microsoft but Adobe and
others) so they don't have to worry about it. Otherwise, computers in
probably 75% of the world would never get patches, updates, or fixes. Ever
wonder why Conficker is not more widespread?

Having an option to toggle the automatic check/download may be a good idea,
but most people would not even think to check to see IF there is an option,
nor would they toggle it off.

Or they would bug you for advice constantly.

After furious head scratching, IT's Me asked:

| This sux. I don't like gettin' my updates all in one place or at one
| time. Once again Microsoft THINKS they know what people want and
| need. When will they let us be in charge of our own computers?

Further Info:
After all the MS Office 2000 patches were installed and I rebooted - I went
back to the web page to see what it would do. Now I do get the discontinued
message:
"Starting August 1, 2009, Microsoft will discontinue support for Office
Update. To continue getting the latest updates for Microsoft Office products,
use Microsoft Update. For more information see the FAQ."

I assume this is because I now have all the patches, and MS Office 2000 is
out-of-support so there will be no more patches.
