Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

One of my folders completely disapeared. I did a search, and found that the message still show up in the search results, they just don't have a folder (the folder column is blank). Anyone have any idea where the message are, or where my folder may be?

Can you use the "Move to" to move the message to a visible folder?

If you create a new Identity and let your Exchange account sync back up, do
you see the folder?

I cannot "drag move" the message, but I can open it and use the "Message Move".

I am going to try rebuilding the cache tonight, and see what happens.

Cache rebuild didn't seem to help (it did seem to give Entourage fits though...very slow, hung once).

Messages still show (in search) with no folder. Where might they be?

Diane,

Any more ideas here? There are several thousand work emails stuck in this limbo that I really need access to.

Thanks!

Two different suggestions.

1) see if one of the scripts "Finding path to misfiled messages" helps.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/script/custom_scripts.html#script4>

Select a message and run the script. It should show you the folder where it
is located.

2) run this script and see if it moves the messages into a folder called
Misplaces Messages.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/downloads/scripts/Misplaced_messages.zip>

Just to refresh....

1) did you create a new Identity and let it sync back up to your Exchange
account?

2) can you see the messages using another client?

1) Not sure about the "identity". I did clear the cache, and am (still) reloading from the exchange server. The messages (oddly) survived the cache-clear though.

2) The messages are not visible from another client.

I will try the scripts and let you know how it works out.

Diane,

I tried both scripts.

Misplaced Messages creates a folder, but it is empty after it runs.

There were two versions of the "Message Path" script. Neither does anything when used on one of the "missing" messages.

After trying to random searches, I am finding other messages with no folder (when I say no, I mean it does not even say NONE). I am starting to get more concerned about what is going on.

Diane,

I am really starting to get very concerned here. I have found two more folders that have "disapeared". One contains critical information. What is most troubling is that the folder is also gone from the Exchange server, therefore unrecoverable. I could use some solid assistance here.

You need to talk to your Exchange support person. The server should be
backing up your data. I believe it's your account on the server that will
have to be fixed.

I'll ping one of the Exchange experts here to see if there is something I
missed, but if a new Identity did not clear up the missing folders, I'm not
sure what else we could do in Entourage.

Diane,

Please pardon the shout: THIS IS NOT AN EXCHANGE PROBLEM!

I can get backups from Exchange. The problem is that Entourage is loosing the folder(s) for my email on a regular basis. It is absolutely not acceptable for me to go requet daily backups because of Entourage issues.

I need to know: 1) if there is anything I can do to make this stop; 2) How do I recover these emails when it happens.

Soon would be really, really helpful.

If I had something to share, don't you think I would have shared it? As I
mentioned, I pinged one of the Exchange folks to see if they could add
something to this.

Hi Glenn!

You still don't seem to have tried a new identity. Select Entourage menu
--> Switch Identity and set up your Exchange account information again.
Allow time for messages to sync back to Entourage.

After Entourage is fully synchronized then search for your messages. Do
they appear now? You still have your old identity to go back to if this
doesn't work.

Bill,

Doesn't clearing cache create a new identity? When I look in the identity folder, I have 3 identities, one from each of the clear-cache efforts.

Also: Could you or Diane please advise me on a search criteria (maybe raw) what would allow me to find all messages that are not assigned to a folder?

I am concerned that the problem is getting worse.

Bill,

I realized that I failed to respond to the second part of your message:

After building new identities (via clearing the cache), the problem continue just as it did before:

1) Multiple folders are gone.
2) Email from those folders can be found in search, but show no folder
3) Attempts to move those emails (by dragging or using MOVE) fails.

I am concerned that other folders will continue to disappear.

As noted above, I would also like to know how to search for messages that have no folder (maybe using the raw search).

Thanks,
Glenn

After building new identities (via clearing the cache),

Creating a new Identity has nothing to do with clearing the cache. To create
a new Identity, under Entourage in the Menu bar select Switch Identity. When
the window pops up, select "New."

OK. When I clear the cache, it creates a new Identity; but I will try it the other way also (I already have 3 identities as I have mentioned several times).

* Still Outstanding*: Can you tell me how I can query messages that have no folder?

Other than the scripts I referenced there are none that I am aware of.

Please backup your data from the server while you are working through this
problem.

I have reported this to the developers. They have the reference to this
thread. It's possible someone will be contacting you.

No, clearing the cache does not create a new identity. Clearing the
cache empties the folder or account that you selected of its contents
and forces a synchronization with the server to repopulate the folder or
account.

Let's clarify... What are *you* calling an identity?
