No, clearing the cache does not create a new identity. Clearing the

Let's clarify... What are *you* calling an identity?
Bill,
These are what I call Identities:
user-macbook-pro:Office 2008 Identities user$ pwd
/Users/user/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities
user-macbook-pro:Office 2008 Identities user$ ls Main Identity Main
Identity [Backed up 2008-11-11 20.21] Main Identity [Backed up
2008-11-18 08.47] Main Identity [Backed up 2008-11-20 13.32]
Newsgroup Cache
While we are patronizing, I could use some clarification as well.
What are *you* calling tech support?
Sorry if you thought I was being patronizing. I wasn't. My question was
very specific so that we'd have no misunderstanding. I wanted what you
thought of as an identity. That helps me know you're understanding me.
As for "tech support" that's not me. I'm a volunteer here, an Entourage
user just like yourself. I don't work for Microsoft and I don't get paid
to answer questions or help folks.
I am getting about one helful response every other day. I have
received the same answer 2 and 3 times (even after confirming what was
asked). Most of my questions go unanswered.
So here they are again: 1) How does Entourage loose the folder for
messages? 2) Is this a known bug? 3) What does the metadata look like
for these messages, and how can I
search for all messages without a folder?
4) Can I get source code to the Misplaced messages script (assuming I
can get info on the Metadata).
1. If we knew that then we could tell you this is a bug or a problem
with your system. We can't see your system to tell you why.
2. Diane thinks so but I don't recall ever seeing it myself.
3. Any metadata would be stored in the Entourage database itself, which
is only accessibly by Entourage. You can not dig into the Database file
as you would a folder and read its contents. You can open most any file
with a text editor such as Word or BBEdit but that would be like wading
through mud just to find a grain of sand. And you definitely shouldn't
alter the Database file this way.
4. Source code? You were provided scripts, not applications. Open the
scripts and you have the code.
I was reassured someone by Diane's comment that a developer was
assigned, and "may" be contacting me.
The operative word here is "may". That's no guarantee. Developers will
sometimes contact end users about problems they believe might be caused
by the software itself. They really have no reason to contact you otherwise.
I'm so far convinced by what you've said in this whole thread that you
haven't tried everything we've suggested. Please read through this so
that we know we're on the same page.
Just to keep things clear, what you've been referring to as "clearing
the cache" is really "rebuilding the Database". That is done by holding
the Option key down and launching Entourage. You seem to have done this
enough times to avoid revisiting this idea.
Emptying the cache is done by selecting a folder in the folder list on
the left under your Exchange account (or you an select the entire
account itself), then right-clicking or Control-clicking, selecting
Folder Properties and clicking the Empty button. Try that next if you
haven't already.
Finally, create a new identity. Again, from what I've read so far you
still haven't tried that.
1. Select Entourage menu --> Switch Identity...
2. Create a new identity. You can call it just "Test".
3. In the "Test" identity set up your account again and see if the
problem continues.
Hope this helps!
