why does this error message always appear when I close a document?

U

unhappy word user

Whenever I close a document, Word 2007 crashes and I get this message:

Word cannot open the file ~WRS{E1FDF6D5-783F-4417-B105-586BB16FD679}.
If it is stored on your computer, there may be a problem with yor hardware.
If the file is stored on the network, there may be a problem with the
network connection.
If you can copy the file, try saving the file in another location and
opening it there.

Then it sends the problem to MS, and then reopens Word.

Thanks Microsoft for all your help.

This problem occurs when I close Word, not when I open it. It occurs when I
try to close a document and then close Word, or if I try to close Word with a
document open. Then I get the error message I mentioned in the first post.
Thanks.

Did you *read* Terry's post? He said, "which includes closing problems too
despite its name!"

Obviously I used far too many words!

I read your message and the website. But I cannot find anything in the
website about this error occuring when I close a document. Maybe I am dense,
but I cannot find it in the posting you sent me to look at.

So what happens when you start Word in Safe Mode (as the FAQ suggests): does
it still error on closing?

That works. But I'm giong to have to tinker with the file involved. It's my
dissertation for my doctorate and I'm a touch sensitive about getting it
messed up in word.

If Word doesn't error on closing when you run in Safe Mode, it proves that
this is a third party add-in causing the problem. I suggest you actually
read the FAQ again as this will help you identify the cause. Starting in
Safe Mode is only a test and not a solution.

I to get the same errors, it only happens when closing a Word 97 -2003
document (.doc) And yes I read the article Terry refers to, and it mentions
nothing about this whatsoever!

I am having the same problem with closing word, ppt, etc. and I see no
resolution is posted here. Did you ever figure out what to do?

T

It's either an incompatible third party add-in, a broken HP printer driver
or a glitch in the Word DataKey in the registry.

So how do I solve the problem from here?

If you have an HP printer, switch to another printer.

If it is the DataKey, simply delete
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\version number\Word\Data.

To see if it is an add-in, test by running in Safe Mode. From Start, Run
(Winkey+R), type in

winword /a

and press enter. Open a document and test for editing and closing now. If it
is OK now, then you have installed something that has placed an incompatible
add-in in Word/Office.

The same thing happens to me too. I happen to have a HP Printer,
recently purchased so I don't think that would go too well if I tried
changing to another printer. The printer is a HP C5280. I get the same
error, however, the number in {} is different. Is there a way to check
whether it is the printer causing that? On reflection, it seems as
though the issue started around the time I got the printer. I'm using
Office 2007 too.

Switch to another printer (you should have the MS XPS Document Writer
installed along with Office 2007 which will suffice for the test. Does that
stop the erroring?

Thanks for the speedy reply, but what's the XPS Document Writer? My
Office 2007 was purchased online through university. Also, the error
only happens about once every 5 times I use word, so I'm not really
sure how to actually test whether it stops or not. Also, one more
thing, how do I change it so that my email isn't displayed (but a
nickname is) when I post this message? Thanks.

If you are using the web interface, I don't know how you change the display
name to an alias: it certainly isn't wise to post your email address in the
open unless it is a 'disposable' address. I use Windows Mail (the Vista
upgrade to OE) and it is clearly set the name and email address to whatever
you like.

If you would like to use OE or Mail, then the server is
msnews.microsoft.com.

Document Image Writer is part of the Office suite, but if it isn't listed
under Printers, then it probably was excluded as part of the install.

What you can do is to install one of the bog standard printer drivers from
the Windows installation: it doesn't matter if you don't actually have the
printer. Try the HP LaserJet 4 driver set as the Windows default. Then run
Word and test it for a while to see if that eliminates the problem.

I'm not really sure what you mean in the last paragraph, but I checked
and I do have the Document Image Writer. Where do I find the "bog
printer driver from the Windows Installation"?

Also, I'm doing this through my gmail in Google Groups. I found
something to change my nickname, but it doesn't appear to do anything.
