Why Outlook looks for McAfee .dll after I uninstalled McAfee

Thanks for your note DL.
I completely removed Norton.
I then reinstalled McAfee from the Backup Installation CD that came with my
new Dell PC. Reinstallation appeared to be successful.

However, when I then tried to uninstall each McAfee component, I was got 2
error messages:
1) "The McAfee Spamkiller uninstallation failed because a critical
unistallation file is missing. Please reinstall McAfee Spamkiller." and
2) "Some components of ActiveShield are eithermissing or might not have been
installed properly. Please reinstall ActiveShield"

I have twice reinstalled Spamkiller from the Backup Installation CD, each
time I am told it is successful. But when I try to uninstall Spamkiller, I
get the same error message #1 above. ActiveShield is not offered as an
option in the custom component installation, so I have not been able to
re-reinstall it.

I need to reinstall Norton today, so I will attempt to do that even with the
McAfee debris still on my PC.

You can perhaps appreciate my frustration with McAfee. I am open to other
suggestions.

If the uninstall fails the only option, I'm aware of is to search the McAfee
site for the manual removal instructions
The McAfee suit apparently requires uninstalling in a specific order
1)McAfee Privacy Service
2)McAfee Personal Firewall Plus
3)McAfee SpamKiller
4)McAfee VirusScan
5)McAfee SecurityCenter

There is a procedure for manually uninstalling Spamkiller on the McAfee
site, I cannot send a link as the url is the main page only.

Personally I would at this stage probably go into the registry and do a
search and delete for all things McAfee.
Its not something to be done lightly, you would need to have a registry back
up and know how to recover in the event of a problem.
Erunt http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/ is a usefull
program

There is also a link to McAfee forums, on the site

DL, thank you again for your patience and consideration of my McAfee problem.
I believe you have lead me to a solution!

First, I tried to clear the problem by again uninstalling McAfee in the
order you specified. This required removing Norton, then re-installing
McAfee (again reported as successful), then using Windows Remove Program to
uninstall McAfee components. Unfortunately, the order of component uninstall
did not help - SpamKiller would still not uninstall due to a missing file.

Second, I tried the manual SpamKiller uninstall. I found the script on the
McAfee site, and after backing up the Registry, followed the script. I
notice that it was more comprehensive than the instructions I got from McAfee
online tech chat, the many times I tried to get help from them.

The manual uninstall appears to be successful, with one exception - when I
look at applications in Windows Remove Program, McAfee SpamKiller is still
listed, but can be removed because no directory can be found! LOL, or keep
swearing at McAfee, not such which to do.

Third, I was able to then uninstall McAfee Security Center using Windows,
and can find no trace of McAfee, other than noted above.

If anyone knows of a class action suit being planned against McAfee for
crappy software and incompetent tech support, please advise me.

Download TweakUI from Microsoft and you'll be able to remove that entry. I
believe it's just a registry setting that you can delete if you're
comfortable with editing the registry.
