Why're big corps doing 800px sites nowadays

Over time -- perhaps this year or next -- market saturation will occur, many
people will continue to use 15" monitors of course and there are going to be
800x600 layouts around for some time but through attrition people will buy
up to 17" (or larger) or will acquire a 17" monitor with a new computer
purchase. That will continue to tip the trend toward 1024x768 as the defacto
'standard' resolution.

Generally I would agree however I work for an OEM and we sell
a ton of those 15" flat panel monitors. YUCK ! But they pay the bills.

1. 800x600 is the least common denominator.

Quite the opposite I think. 800X600 is actually not loosing
popularity as more and more people are buying low-end flat-panel
monitors that have optimal resolutions set to 800X600. Also many are
buying smaller portable systems as they're tired of carrying something
heavier than their suitcase . The migration to tablet PC's as well as
PDA's and cell phones is all something to consider. Believe it or not
I was able to watch a ripped DVD movie on a cell phone the other day.
I believe the screen size was 320X400. The file size was 92MB.

Oh and a lot of people are getting older. ;>)
