Thank you all for the help...
I contacted Microsoft and they said to open Office on my old computer,
and that the install code would be in the menu for Office. It
was(20digit/4blanks). I was happy, this evaporated when the new
format(25digits/5blanks) conflicted with the old and despite dozens of
alterations, I got zilch. I would think the no.s from my old computer
are right, and that the new format is designed to frustrate people like
myself, so we just trash a program we downloaded only once. Mike

Hi Mike:

Someone at Microsoft doesn't know what they're talking about, or you have
not understood what they said :)

The install code (correctly known as the Product Key) is not visible
anywhere in the application after you type it in. It never has been.

When you enter the Product Key, the application uses that to generate the
Product ID, a 20-digit number that enables Microsoft to determine whether
your product was installed with a valid product key.

But they're completely different numbers. The Product Key is an
alphanumeric string, the Product ID is an integer. You cannot activate a
product with the Product ID, and you cannot reconstruct the Product Key from
the Product ID. I don't know why they would have told you otherwise.

It may have been that they were asking you to give them the Product ID.
From that, they can see that you had a valid Product Key at one stage, and
to which licence series it belongs: they may then be willing to sell you a
new Product Key.

Hope this helps
