Anyone else notice Office 2007 is slower starting up?

Interesting, ran an Office diagnostic and it says I got 2 versions of
Outlook. Ah come on!

Compatibility Diagnostic - Conflicting versions of Outlook found
The Compatibility Diagnostic test identified conflicting versions of
Microsoft Office Outlook. To remove the version of Outlook from your
computer that you do not want, in Control Panel in Microsoft Windows,
double-click Add or Remove Programs.

Well looks like I lost all my emails. Good thing I got them backed up.
Yep, Repaired Outlook via the Add/Remove in the Control Panel because
of the crashing and it makes a new .pst file and overwrites the old one
on the computer...

I am not a happy camper.

Sorry to hear that, but I am glad you have a backup.
Btw, it shouldn't overwrite the old one. It should make a new file in
the same folder with a different name.

"...it shouldn't" - is a nice IT phrase ;-) but in reality it has
different meaning.

Yes it overwrote the original PST file. My archived one is 186MB this
new one is 566KB. Had to grab my raw PST 1.3GB file and drag it into
the folder, you were right about the IMPORT feature being useless...

But still had to do a repair with it...

Lesson to be learned...always backup first!

Do you remember what you exactly did that made Outlook overwrite your
file? As it shouldn't happen, I'd like to file a bug so that MS can make
sure this is not just a nice IT phrase

I hope you didn't have to use the scanpst utility. That one is still
broken in B2 and I would not recommend using it.

Welcome to beta testing
All my email is in an IMAP account, so if Outlook shoots the PST, I can
get the email easily again. My contacts, etc are synced via Plaxo to a
server on the Internet and to my tablet. And my archive PST gets from
time to time backed up via the Internet.

Hi Patrick

Well Outlook 2007 has been a pain. IN reference to overwriting, my
mistake, it makes a new Outlook1.pst file. I just went into
Doc&Settings and see the old one there.

Still unable to repair that .pst, but thankfully able to restore an
archive.pst I did a couple of days ago.

Something I've also noticed is the mouse will dissappear once in awhile
from typing inside of Outlook.

Yes, tried the scanpst and get an error about "procedure entry point
DDLUnintInstace@0"

Using a new profile as when I try to go back to the default profile,
Outlook does a repair and then blank screen then force shutdown, alert
MS about the error and shuts it down.

I still hate the GROUPS view and Reading Pane, wish one could turn
these features off universally and not have to do with every folder I
have (26 of them).

Plus the Favorite Folders vs Mail Folders. Wish one could shut down
Mail Folders or shrink it to a non-existant size, like the
Contacts/Calendar, etc. Right now you can only shrink it to a certain
size and left with dead space on the left column under it.

You have to load Outlook with the /cleanviews switch and then via define
Views modify the generic one that is used for all folders.
I am glad it kept your old file!
