I recently tried to install an update at the Microsoft
site. I am using Office Basic Edition 2003. The update
downloaded and then asked for the CD. I got an error
message that it could not find ZF561407.CAB and the
update aborted. I read on the site to download the
fullfile versions which would not ask for the CD.
However, when doing it this way it did ask for the CD and
I received the same error message. I have tried "Setup"
on the original OEM disk and attempted to "Repair" and
received the same message. I also tried to reinstall
with the same message. I'm afraid to uninstall first as
it looks like I would not be able to reinstall.
Everything in the office suite is working, I just can't
update. Any ideas?????
My solution to this problem was to
(a) uninstall Office 2003
(b) reinstall Office 2003 using your CD
As near as I can tell, this problem happens with some OEM versions
where OEM version X is installed on your computer but they give you a
CD with OEM version Y.
Microsoft was their usual clueless self about a solution. My computer
OEM suggested a reinstall, although they were not familiar with the
problem.
I approached a reinstall with some trepidation as well, but it worked
fine. I am using Small Business Edition 2003 and I have the following
