How do you set up a navigational frame to stay on each web page?

Actually, Marion I thought about this when I was walking to the shops just
now.

I asked many of the same questions myself when I started. The advice I got
from this NG was "optimise". Well, that's fine, I thought, nice jargon, but
what does it mean in practice.

When I got IrfanView, I was able to find out *how* to do it, as distinct
from a general description of what to do.

In Irfanview, I open a picture, and resize it (I choose 600*400 or 400*600).
This option is in the Image menu or Ctl-R.

I then save, using the 3rd icon from the left on the top menu bar. A side
box comes up with JPEG/GIF save options. Under the heading JPEG, there is a
slider Save quality: I set this to 75%

I find this gives me a decent picture of about 45-50KB which is a good size
for the Internet.

I hope you can use this info. and make some progress.

I am working through your queries one at a time, so apologies if there are
overlaps or someone else gives another answer.
I have numbered your questions below *1.* etc. and my answers

*1.* If everything looks good on your computers, then they support frames.
The test is whether the contents of the tag <noframes> displays using your
browser. If if does not, then your browser supports frames.
*2.* Bookmarks are a separate issue. They simply add a reference point in
the page and can be used in GoTo type commands. The point to go to is
bookmarked, and the GoTo command uses the reference to know where to go to.
It is not a complicated process, and I (or another) can explain further.
*3.* Yes. In jargon speak, a background is either an image or a color.
Either can easily be added.
*4.* Tables can be added. I use them extensively.
*5.* I do use hyperlinks. An example would be on the page in my website
named "Picture Album" There are several lines of "GoTo"s. Each of these has
a set of hyperlinks to another part of the page

Sure, I will bear with you. I have been a beginner, myself (probably still
am). To bare with you might be too intimate

to be cut off vertically.

I suggest you make the picture smaller or increase the space available.

Alternatively increase 190 to something greater. But then there won't be a
lot of space for the main page.

It is all experimentation, I am afraid.

If I leave my frames as they are do you think I will have problems with them?
There really isn't that much more that I am going to add in the way of
pages. This is for a high school team to inform them of practices and
schedules and maybe have some pictures on there during the season. I will
work on the banner and work on optimizing the pictures. I guess optimizing
the pictures will make it load faster??

frames. What do I do about that? I have microsoft version 6.0. I am a bit
confused about that.

Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6.0 *does* support frames

The syntax of the HTML can be confusing;
One uses <noframes>text></noframes> to display text in browsers which
*don't* support frames.

It is not code saying: "My browser doesn't have frames",
rather code which says: "I wrote this code in a browser using frames, but if
your browser doesn't support frames, then here is a message to say so"

Is that clearer than mud, as they say in Aussieland :-D
