JoAnn. Thanks for your comment. The VGNSZ18GP supplied in Australia did not
have a trial version installed.
Have sent the laptop to the local sony repair agent with a genuine version
of office 2003 to see if they can install it. Will advise outcome

brand new Sony.

The Factory recovery sets the PC back to the way it was when purchased
with
the supplied software reinstalled from the recover partition on the hard
drive, so any changes/problems created will be eliminated. With the PC in
the
as new state you would expect the you could install new "original" MS
Software.
DL said:If you used the Sony restore procedure to put your sys back to Factory
supplied state, it would I have thought wiped all data / files on the PC,
unless the restore has the option to perform a none destructive restore.
Was your Sony supplied with any Trial version of Office, and if so did
you
uninstall this prior to installing your retail version of Office2003?
Using the installer clean up utility you remove the MS office 2003
entries.
Mary thanks for your comments. Tried clean up but didnot seem to help.
Which
files do you use it on?
Have downloaded Belarc. Also ran a diagnostic package after cleanup[PC
mightymax v9].Then did a restore & ran again >150 & 220 invalid
registry
path
problems in each case. Is likely to relate to the way the factory
install
is
done on the laptop. Is this a problem?
:
I have used the cleanup utility in the past with good results. I
believe
my
problem stemmed from deleting the Office setup files in the temp
folder.
I was
getting a permissions error message when I tried to use detect and
repair. When
I used the utility and re-installed Office 2003 my problem
disappeared.
I can
only relate my experience, I don't believe it is a flaw in the Office
setup.
Be certain you have your product code if you use the cleanup utility.
Belarc is a help

Thanks for your advice. Have downloaded stand list"Cleanup &
Listool"
I understand listool will be of value once Office is installed.
If Cleanup works then this suggests the factory build has some
issue.
Your thoughts would be appreciated
