Office 2000: Admin OK, User gets "Error Applying Transform"

Logged in as User2, and Office now works.

Great!

It sounds like the problem discussed in earlier threads where a specific
user is seen as the Admin user who installed it. I'm surprised there was
no log file in the temp folder, it's usually there and gives good
pointers as to what's wrong.

When do log files get created? When Office is opened? If so, please
recall that I had not been able to open Office from User2, getting
Error Applying Transform instead.

Hi Karlo,

recall that I had not been able to open Office from User2, getting
Error Applying Transform instead.

No, it's at the point you invoke setup, e.g. when you try to install
Office or Add a feature. The inability to apply a transform implies that
setup had been invoked but was unable to complete, and I'd have expected
a log file to be created at that point. However, since you've upgraded,
and since it's not exactly a clean computer, it's possible your
environment variables are messaged up and that Office thinks the %TEMP%
folder is somewhere else e.g.

c:\temp
c:\winnt\temp
c:\windows\temp

If you type SET at the command prompt for each user it will show the
environment strings in effect. You can copy from the black window by
simply dragging the mouse over the text and pressing Enter.
