Office 2000 SR-1 Premium Installer Error 1706

Susan....I hope it's ok if I jump in here since this is the exact problem I'm
having and I don't see where Stephen has responded....

I'm getting error 1706 (no valied source for product) and 1729
(configuration failed) and 1001 (detection of product failed)....
This happens when I use WORD......It's been happening since 1/2/04....I
mention this date because it seems some kind of M/S 'up-date' / change was
done automatically by M/S on that date----perhaps a 2004 policy change.....I
didn't initiate any update on that date and since it's the first workday of
the year, it makes me wonder if it wasn't some kind of general company update
etc.....
Also "Help" in WORD acts different than it originally did....

You asked about the Office 2000 software......I don't have a disk with that
label---Is it a separate disk?---(assuming it's not on the WIN XP Home
disk-----right?)
All mention I find in my system about the Office version that came
pre-installed quotes Office 2000 SR-1....No reference to 'Premium' other than
on the error messages...

I have a couple other questions but will wait to hear from you about this
part first.....
Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated......Thanx so much......

So now, I'm even more confused----if that's possible---ha......

Thanx for your patience......Carol aka vwdrv1

Hi, vwdrv1,

Yes, the installer is looking for the original installation media.

Since your system was pre-installed by the manufacturer, you'll need to
contact them for support and/or to get an original CD for the installation
(though I understand that the Office 2000 CDs are getting hard to come by,
if they're even available). I'd recommend re-running setup to re-install
the suite. Yes, the CD should be different than the Windows XP CD, and your
original equipment manufacturer should have provided you one.

In the mean time, if you go to the Windows Control Panel, what Office
programs are installed? Do you have Works installed, or Word listed?
