Office 2003 Upgrade error 1406

J

JoAnn Paules [MVP]

It may cause problems. The notice on the beta site stes:
"It is important to understand that beta software does not necessarily
display the same high level of stability of shipped Microsoft products."
"Beta testers may experience problems with the Microsoft Office 2007 Beta 2
products that could potentially result in loss, corruption, or destruction
of existing data."
"This beta testing release is not appropriate for production use." (This
particular point was in bold text.)
"It is strongly recommended that you back up your existing data before you
install and run this software."
"Beta code is offered "as is", and does NOT include technical support."

They were not kidding. I fear too many people are not taking those caveats
seriously and downloading the beta "just because".

Hi S.,

If you mean that the beta has problems, yes, it's not the final product <g>, but if you mean will using 'Ignore' through the blank
dialog when 'Retry' doesn't work, then no, it's one of the 'known issues' at
http://officebeta.iponet.net/en-us/products/FX101517941033.aspx?mode=print
(which requires either Office 2007 installed or the OfficeOnline Preview ActiveX control installed to view the site)

From Start=>Run=Microsoft Office Tools you can run the Office 2007 diagnostics to have a double check of the status of your
installed apps.

===========
Hi,
I was experiencing the same problem when installing Office 2007 Beta. I got
10 warnings at least but I ignored all. The program seems to be working now
but I'm still nervous if it causes some malfunction.

If anybody has a clue it would be appreciated. >>

Returning to the banner topic re Office 2003 - the last time I ran Registry
Mechanic over the weekend the 32 errors are no longer being reported and
Office 2003 continues to work ok, but oddly Excel nor Word show up in the
start menu as recently/actively used programs. Is this an issue related to
the registry errors from before?

And since Norton Systemworks still continues to report the registry errors,
should I still be concerned?

Thanks
