Office update requires MS Word Disk???

G

Ghost Rider

When I try to update Office 2000 with Service Pack 3, it always hangs on step
4 of 5.

It asks me to insert the MS Word 2000 SR-1 disk. Of course, I bought Office
2000, not just Word 2000.

If I hit the Browse button, it seems to want a file called Data1.MSI. A
file with that name is in the root directory of my Office CD Rom installation
disk, but when I select it, I get this error: "The file D:Data1.MSI is not a
valid installation package for MS Word..."

Don't want to have to buy Word just to update Office, since it's supposed to
be included with Office.

Can Microsoft fix the update?

My system is a Dell Pentium 3, 1 GHz, running Windows 2000 Pro (Version 5.0,
Service Pack 4, build 2195). My IE version is 6.0.2800.1106.

Check in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control
panel to see if you have a separate listing for
Microsoft Word. It may have been installed as
part of a MS Works Suite package.

Data1.msi was a common name for all MS Office 2000
family products, but each product's Data1.msi is
different.

That was exactly the problem. I forgot Word came with the computer, so was
not installed with the rest of Office. Thank you Bob.

It appears I may have the same or similar problem, but I am not clear how to
solve it.
I am trying to update Ofice 2000 with SP3 and get the same msg as ghost rider.
I have the (2) Office2000 Small Business and the (1)Works 2000 disks, but in
Add/Remove I can see that I have on my pc;
Office 2000 SR-1 Disc 2;
Office 2000 SR-1 Premium;
Office 2000 SR-1 Small Business;
Works 2000;
(and also Outlook Express 5).
What do I do? The installation process asks for the Office 2000 SR-1 Premium
disk to get data.msi file.
I am worried about deleting programs and losing any asscociated data from my
pc.........
Thanks for any help. Very frustrated, Jon.
