Office update requires MS Word Disk???

Hi, kmgoff30,

Word is part of Works. That's why the Windows Installer wants to have the
Works CD when updating Office 2000, because it detects Word is there.
Data1.msi exists on a variety of product CDs. When prompted, insert each
disk in turn until the Windows Installer gets what it's looking for.

No need to uninstall anything, as far as I can see from your inquiry.

disks that I have (detailed below) and the data1.msi file is not found. Do I
need to uninstall Office SR1 Premium, as that is the data1.msi file that the

Mixing and matching Office 2000 editions,
in this case it appears that Office 2000 Premium
and Office 2000 Small Business editions were used
can be problematic.

Yes, the Data1.msi file for each edition is different
and the Premium one, if asked for would need to be
available.

If you have only the Small Business Edition you
may want to back up all of your files then uninstall
the Premium Edition, restart the PC and do a repair/reinstall
on Office 2000 Small Business Edition all through
Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel.

If you have a listing for MS Works but not a separate
MS Word 2000 listing from MS Works Suite then Works
should generally be okay. If you have a separate
Word 2000 listing you could also uninstall that one
as the copy in Office 2000 of Word 2000 will work.
