The date and time was Tuesday, September 15, 2009 5:18:08 PM, and on a
whim, (e-mail address removed) pounded out on the keyboard:
Thanks guys for the useful feedback.
William:
I got the live sync checked. Now works. thanks. Interestingly: you
don't even have to click send receive anymore ever again, correct?
They just magically appear in your inbox. Any downside to that?
I right click: get info is grayed out and all the other stuff you
said to look for does not appear. why not?
TERRY/ William: I don't see anything in account section about
forwarding to Gmail either.
but Terry says not to bother anyway. Question, if I join Gmail and
set up there, will clients see everything as it's coming from those
seperate accounts. Of course Terry, unlike Entourage/imap, it's just
pure webmail. I lose the interface I've known and loved all these
years, right?
Gmail has a "Send Mail As" feature so your incoming mail can be replied
to from the same address, not only gmail.
I used Netscape and now Thunderbird for a LONG time (now only using it
for newsgroups). It was limited to using on only computers I had taken
the time to configure it on (wasn't interested in the Portable Apps
version). Now that I have all my mail from all my mail accounts going
into Gmail, I can access all of them on any computer that has an
internet connection. And I have all of it working perfectly on my Palm
Pre. Today I was even able to configure my Pre to be able to "Send As"
so my incoming mail on my phone can be sent out using the same email
address. And my Calendars and Contacts are immediately available to me,
since the Pre interfaces with Gmail very well. Not counting it also
support Exchange.
The interface isn't perfect, but using Labels (like folders), "Canned
Responses" for my sig files, I don't need a mail client any longer. It
has simplified my mail access beyond my expectations.
Finally, last hitch for imap. My verizon accounts don't work and
Verizon says they don't support imap, which is strange, since they
are my isp and imap works for some other email accounts. What to do?
Any workaround? Also, any downsides to imap over pop which I've been
on forever. and william, what think of imap vs pop. vs gmail?
Not all email providers support IMAP. Once I read that Gmail supported
it, I started moving to it.
PSS: one of my important web hosters wrote this, what think of it?:
With IMAP, you have to be more intentional about cleaning your
account on the server out. If you leave too much mail on the server,
your account will cease to respond, and that amount is going to vary,
depending on the message content and on your email client. We do not
officially support IMAP, so any issues that come up with the account
would be up to you to resolve.
Nice thing about IMAP, ALL of your folders reside on the server. So
wherever you access it, they're all available. POP only uses the Inbox,
so any other folders won't be available that you create on another client.
I have always kept my email folders clean, and I also keep my Gmail
folders clean, regardless of the huge disk space available.
