There are other issues with the Dutch versions. See the post "[ANN] Fonts
increasing in size - follow-up"

A temporary workaround for users who enabled the Dutch dictionary would be
to switch to the English dictionary for now. Please note you will have to
re-launch Entourage for the change to happen.

I'm interested in this problem too, which didn't get addressed.
I received an PC .xlsx file from a colleague and it won't open in Mac as an Excel file, but only as a word compatibility file, which doesn't include all the data in the file. I got Office 08 expressly for this purpose.
Please advise. Thanks.

I have just started using Office 2008 and find real compatibility issue with Office for Windows. I find that I have no problem opening Word documents from a PC but for some reason PC users have a real difficulty with my documents. Instead of normal text, when they open my documents they get a lot of unintelligible characters. I had no such problems with Office X or 2004.

Try dragging the file to Excel in the Dock and try forcing Excel to open it.

I should add that this applies even to documents saved as Word 97-2004 documents. It also seems to have "infected" documents created with previous version, ie Office 2004.

1> Post a new one, don't hijack threads.
2> 10.4.11 is a free upgrade; get off your behind and install it, its free.

Well, if you mean "Will it work with something less than 10.4.9?" the answer
is No - that's why the spec is what it is. If you're running 10.4.0-10.4.8
you'll have to update your OS to run Office 2008.

When using Word 2008 I view documents received from other people in some instances I get a light blue lines in the background, sometimes it is a grid pattern, sometimes the lines are horizontal and other times vertical. It does not happen always but quite frequently. The lines do not appear on a paper when I printed the document, but it can be quite annoying. I was wondering if there is some way of getting rid of them.

1> Stop hijacking threads.
2> You need a cd drive (they're $99 through the Apple store).
3> Simply screaming 'it doesn't work' doesn't tell me anything about the
situation.

Hello,
I just bought my first Mac and Office 2008 (Student version). When I open Word, the Word page is only half of the computer screen (left side of screen)and the font is super tiny. Do you have any recommendations? Working on half a screen for word processing in such tiny font is killing my eyes.
Thanks.

You should be able to make the window full screen by clicking on the green
bubble in the upper left hand corner. Also check out Zoom in the window
menu.

In early January my wife and I bought a new MacBook Pro and bought Office 2004 because the salesmen told us we could get Office 2008 for shipping. He said to just check back in March or so. Anyway, I just found the link finally on my own to upgrade. Well, the link is no longer there and I am just wondering if anyone can direct me where to go from here? My name is Jay.

Oh, and our version was the Student Version. I just noticed after posting that someone earlier was told to make their own post and not to steal someone else's or that topic. I apologize if I did that, I am just trying to find out what I can do to upgrade my Office 2004 that I bought the first week of January this year (2008), and if I can still get a certificate.

If you have missed the deadline, I'm not sure if MSFT can help you.

You could try calling, but some of this stuff is farmed out to a third party
and there isn't much they can do if you have missed the time frame or do not
have the required proof.

so how do i activate the software on my new computer then? I have microsoft office from my old Mac, but when my trial expired I found no way of licensing it for the new computer.

Why are you hijacking a totally unrelated & already perverted thread?:)

Mac Office Trial versions *do not* get activated the way PC Office does. If
you want the retail package you have to buy & install it. Make sure to
properly run Remove Office before installing, though.
