I've got the same somewhat like problem. It downloaded ok and it seemed to
extract ok when executing office.exe but then Windows Installer pops up and
tells me "This patch package could not be opened. Verfiy that the patch
package exists....etc".

Your missing the problem. The trial downloads OK, the office.exe file that
is down loaded will not complete the install ation & halts with an error
message " Fatal error.. as with the other threads of the same problem, no one
has the aptitude to fix tthis problem.

"Everyone" else is NOT having this problem as I can download the trial
version readily using my Internet connection. Are you using a download
manager? Don't. Is your AV active? Disable it while downloading. Do you
have a Firewall configured? Again, disable it while downloading.
