Windows cannot find C:\ (doc) Make sure you typed the name correct

I have the exact same problem and it is driving me crazy. I have reinstalled
vista and office 2007 and have tried everything that I could find everywhere
on the web. No solutions....no fixes and the problem remains. I cannot open
an item by clicking on it. I have to open the program first.... but only
some of the time? Not all of the time.

It is tedious, time consuming and frusterating. I am at a loss?

I have the same issue but only with Excel 2007, not with Word. And it
happens only on one of several different Vista PCs I am running
(unfortunately on the one I am using most frequently). If I drag&drop
the file into an opened Excel, it opens the XLS file without any
problem. Repetition of doubleclicking on the XLS file does not help at
all.

hi
quote "This Vista & Word 2007 problem has been raised by a small number of

well i have 2 vista pc's running office 2007 in the same office with this
problem (the 3 XP machines are fine) ... for me its not such a small problem
& they are not satisfied with being told it is a bug ... can this issue
please be treated with some degree of urgency

I was plagued by the problem aswell, and it wasnt "90% of the time", it was
100% of the time Word (well, Explorer actually) would fail to "find" the
document...
I had a look at the file associations, and noticed, oddly enough, that docx
files were associated with Word Viewer, not Word 2007.... so I:
- Right click on any .docx file, choose properties.
- on the "General" tab, where it says "Open With:" click "Change".
- Choose "Microsoft Office Word" as the application.
- accept all dialogs to finish.

This solved my problem!!
Its such a simple fix, that I assume it cant be responsible for all your
problems, and will likely only fix this issue for some of you. But, heres to
hoping!

Best regards

I really do hope they fix this - I have the same problem, only for me,
opening the file a second time doesn't work ... so I basically have no way of
opening it ...

I am so glad this is a running thread.
Windows Vista Ultimate
Office 2007 Ultimate
I can open anything except a WORD doc or docx by double clicking. When I
attempt to open a WORD doc the WROD program begins to open then disappears
after the WORD logo pops up and I get the error message as previously stated.
Double-click the same file again and it opens. However, I do not think I had
this iussue when I first installed, bu tI do not recall when I first started
having the experience.

Any resolution will be great.

This Vista & Word 2007 problem has been raised by a small number of users in
different locations but there has been no satisfactory solution.

It remains unclear why only a limited number of users have it. But for those
who do, it is a devastatingly annoying issue - one that renders Word 2007
almost unusable.

The problem:

When you double-click on any Word doc or docx icon - or attempt to open it
from Outlook email - it opens a blank page in Word 2007 and you see the
message "Windows cannot find C:\ (doc) Make sure you typed the name
correctly, and then try again".

On trying a second time simply double-clicking the same icon opens the
document in 90% of cases - though there is occasionally a second failure like
the first.

This problem means that every document has to be "opened" twice - a huge
waste of time. (though opening a doc / docx from within the Word program
works fine.)

Note: this also affects Excel 2007 - but I have used this less so am not so
sure if it is equally.

Before you respond with solutions - please note:
This problem is unresolved ie ...
All the supposed Firefox solutions including registry alterations make no
difference.
Changing or uninstalling Virus programs makes no difference.
It is not just an issue to do with .doc vs .docx
I have uninstalled & reinstalled Office. I have doubled the PC's memory. I
have altered every setting I can think of altering (and that is a lot).
Nothing makes any difference.

Can anyone help or suggest anything? I strongly suspect a program clash -
but with what?

A possibly related problem (and possible clue??):

On choosing to SAVE Word attachments rather than open them directly from
Outlook they save as type "All files" unregistered to any program (with no
alternative allowed). This leads to a long-winded opening or renaming process
afterwards.

Any help ... please?

I cannot get into ANY document even after clicking it twice. Word 2007 will
only open in Safe mode and even then I cannot get the document. On XP, fine.
Vista? Not so much...which is a shame because I am liking the Vista
features, design and such and would rather not get rid of it...however, I
need Word. -|- Jake

I had this same problem about a month ago. I reformatted the harddrive after
backing up all documents. Did a fresh install of all software, pulled in all
documents and everything worked fine untill about two days ago when the
problem returned. I was told it was my AV program, NOT. I was told it might
be my printer drivers, again NOT. It happened regardless to the AV program,
and my printer is connected to a different computer now and yet the problem
persists. So MS will need to be made aware of this.

This is still being looked into and as soon as I get anymore information
about it I will post it here.

I have the same problem. Looks like I fixed is by opening the WINWORD file
located C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.

Hope this help

You had my hopes up then, thanks for the thought, but still requires two
clicks to find doc.
